Renewal

God can bring renewal in so many surprising ways. The school year stretched far too long because of make up days for earlier days off for inclement weather. I spent the remainder of the week putting away books and baubles, readying the room for the yearly custodial thorough cleaning. By the time I pushed, "Go" on the GPS and started the car, I felt exhausted. Physically, emotionally and even spiritually exhausted.

On the drive to Wheaton, my plans for the writers conference paraded through my mind, interrupted only momentarily by the Australian GPS voice telling me to "turn left in .2 miles." I was certain my energy could not live up to the schedule before me for the next four days.
I craved refreshment, to be energized for the task of the summer writing, to be renewed in the passion to write. I thought the renewal would look a certain way, but God thought it should look differently. It came in the form of a wonderfully crazy group of fantasy writers who aren't afraid to stay up late nights to critique each other's manuscripts and to share in each other's lives.

What a pleasant surprise of renewal you gave me, God!

Psalm 104:29-30 (NIV)

"When you hide your face,
they are terrified;
when you take away their breath,
they die and return to the dust.

When you send your Spirit,
they are created,
and you renew the face of the earth."
